‘Smart Urbanism’ Understanding and Innovative Applications of Municipalities

Urban population increasing in Turkey and the world also bring the great problems together with it. The problems emerging in the areas such as housing, infrastructure, transportation, education, health, security, environment, and energy, resulted from the increasing population, and the need to use the energy resources that expire in the optimum way prompts urban administration to more use the possibility technology presents.

Municipalities, one of the nearest units to citizen, increase the number of services they present in electronic media day by day. While municipalities using technology in the best way in the presentation of local services can be examined as smart municipalities, for urban administrations, the concepts of “smart urbanization” stands out. While applications of smart city provides the development of the cities with the support of technology, they raise the quality of services presented to cities. With the technological solutions, presented in many areas of local services such as transportation, infrastructure, energy, and environment, the resources of city are consumed at the minimum level and maximum benefit is provided. In addition, in competition of Turkey with the world cities, investments of smart city is extremely important.

‘Akıllı Şehircilik’ Anlayışı ve Belediyelerin İnovatif Uygulamaları

Türkiye’de ve dünyada artan şehir nüfusu büyük sorunları da beraberinde getirmektedir. Artan nüfus ve göçün ortaya çıkardığı konut, altyapı, ulaşım, eğitim, sağlık, güvenlik, çevre ve enerji gibi alanlarda ortaya çıkan sorunlar ve tükenen enerji kaynaklarını optimum kullanma ihtiyacı kent yönetimlerini teknolojinin sunduğu imkanları daha fazla kullanmaya sevk etmektedir. Günümüzde vatandaşa en yakın yönetim birimlerinden biri olan belediyeler elektronik ortamda sundukları hizmetlerin sayısını gün geçtikçe artırmaktadır. Yerel hizmetlerin sunumunda teknolojiyi en iyi şekilde kullanan belediyeler ‘akıllı belediye’ olarak nitelendirilirken, kent yönetimleri için de ‘akıllı şehircilik’ kavramı ön plana çıkmaktadır.

Akıllı şehir uygulamaları şehirlerin teknoloji desteğiyle kalkınmasını sağlarken, şehirlilere sunulan hizmetlerin de kalitesini yükseltmektedir. Ulaşım, altyapı, enerji, çevre gibi pek çok yerel hizmet sahasında sunulan teknolojik çözümler ile kentin kaynakları minimum düzeyde tüketilerek maksimum fayda sağlanmaktadır. Ayrıca Türkiye’nin dünya kentleriyle rekabet etmesinde akıllı şehir yatırımları son derece önemlidir.
