One of the most important sources of information is the true report. Li-kewise, the nature and value of reports in Islamic epistemology has been discussed. Since they are fed from the tradition of narration, the subject of khabar in hadith and history methodology has been examined independently and researchers in this field have devoted a large part of their work to “detection of fake reports”. The efforts of Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyya (d. 751/1350) and Ibn Khaldun (d. 808/1406), who are known for their closeness to the aforementioned disciplines and lived in the eighth century, to present a methodology for the detection of fake reports and the views they expressed are remarkable. In this study, the possibility of detecting a false report with respect to the views of two important representatives of hadith and history methodology has been examined and the methods of the relevant disciplines have been evaluated around examples. With the findings obtained, it has been observed that modern era confirmation platforms and technological developments will contribute to hadith and historical criticism methodology in detecting fake reports.
