ETHICAL PRINCIPLES AND PUBLICATION POLICY

Journal of Fruit Science, “COPE Code of Conduct and Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors and “COPE Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors” International Council of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE), the World Association of Medical Editors (WAME), the Council of Science Editors (CSE), the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), the European Association of Science Editors (EASE), and National Information Standards Organization (NISO). undertakes to fulfill ethical duties and responsibilities on the basis of its guidelines; expects editors, authors and referees to act in this framework.

Ethical Rules for Authors
• In terms of publication ethics of the Journal of Fruit Science, “COPE Code of Conduct and Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors and “COPE Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors” International Council of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE), the World Association of Medical Editors (WAME), the Council of Science Editors (CSE), the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), the European Association of Science Editors (EASE), and National Information Standards Organization (NISO). undertakes to fulfill its ethical duties and responsibilities on the basis of its guidelines.
• The journal uses the double blind peer review system where the identities of the referees and authors are hidden from each other.
• The works requested to be published must not have been published anywhere or sent to any journal for publication.
• However; Only articles whose abstracts have been published by being presented in national or international congresses are accepted for publication.
• Copyright Transfer Agreement should be signed by all authors and uploaded to the system along with the works sent to the journal for publication.
• Only those who contribute scientifically to the content of the article should be included as authors in the design of the study, the establishment and conduct of the trials, and the writing of the article.
• It cannot be proposed to change author responsibilities such as adding an author, changing the order of authors and removing an author in a study whose evaluation process has begun.
• During the publication process, the "Responsible Author" who corresponds with the relevant journal/institution is accepted. The corresponding author should share his correspondence with other authors and take the necessary actions in a timely and accurate manner.
• The Manuscript Checklist should be uploaded to the system only after being signed by the responsible author.
• Articles submitted for publication to the Journal of Fruit Science cannot be withdrawn in principle after the referee process has been initiated. After this stage, the withdrawal requests regarding the article are evaluated by the editorial board, taking into account the justification.
• All responsibility of the works belongs to the authors. Manuscripts should be prepared in accordance with the principles of scientific ethics, and if necessary, a copy of the Ethics Committee Report should be attached. The Ethics Committee Report information (name of the committee, date and issue number) related to the research topics below should be given in the method section and also in the Acknowledgment section on the last page of the article.

• The Journal of Fruit Science is very sensitive about Plagiarism, especially Plagiarism and Duplicate, and never tolerates these issues.
• For this reason, similarity scanning of the articles sent to the journal by the authors should be done with the iThenticate program and the report should be uploaded to the system.
• The similarity rate should be at most 20%, excluding references.
• The authors are responsible for declaring the potential conflict of interest of all the studies submitted for publication and the organizations supporting the studies in the Acknowledgment section of the article.
• In addition, if the study is produced from graduate theses and there are people or institutions to be thanked for their contribution to the study, such cases should also be stated in the Acknowledgment section.

Ethical Rules for Editors
• The Editorial Board of the Journal of Fruit Science, all ethical duties specified on the basis of the "COPE Code of Conduct and Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors" and "COPE Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors" published by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) as open access. and undertakes to abide by its responsibilities.
• Editors are responsible for all articles published in the journal and are responsible for contributing to the improvement of the journal's quality.
• Editors respect and support the authors' freedom of thought.
• Editors should make a positive or negative decision by evaluating the studies submitted to the journal in terms of importance, original value, validity, clarity of expression, and compliance with the aims and objectives of the journal.
• Editors, studies submitted to the journal; should be evaluated only within the framework of their intellectual values, without considering the social, cultural, economic characteristics and religious beliefs of the authors.
• The Editorial Board should decide whether the articles submitted for publication to the journal will be evaluated within 3 weeks and should notify the author of this.
• If the Editorial Board decides to reject the article as a result of the first review, they are obliged to clearly inform the authors about the reason.
• Studies submitted to the journal should be checked first by the editors for plagiarism. At this stage, the works with the possibility of plagiarism are rejected by the editors.
• Studies submitted to the journal should not be disclosed by the editors to anyone other than the referees of the article.
• Editors should not encourage authors to cite any article or other work in the journal in order to accept studies submitted to the journal.
• In case of editor change, the new editor should not change a decision taken by the previous editor unless it is an important situation.
• Editors should send manuscripts to referees who are suitable for their subject expertise in the same discipline.
• Editors must obtain the approval of the referees that there are no conflicts of interest prior to evaluation.
• Editors should encourage referees to evaluate the work in an impartial, scientific and objective language.
• Editors should take care to have scientists who evaluate the articles objectively, fulfill the refereeing process on time, evaluate the article with constructive criticism, and act in accordance with ethical rules.
• Editors are obliged to inform all the members of the advisory board about the publication policies of the journal by determining the members of the advisory board in accordance with their fields of expertise, who can contribute and are suitable.

Ethical Rules for Referees
• If a study submitted to the Journal of Fruit Sciences is not in their field of expertise, does not have sufficient information about the subject of the article, or is unable to make a timely evaluation, they should notify the editor and leave the evaluation task.
• Reviewers should never evaluate the works that they determine to have competition, cooperation or any other kind of relationship or connection between the author and the author.
• The referees should evaluate the work in accordance with the confidentiality principle and should not share the work with third parties.
• The referees should keep the privileged information and ideas obtained during the review process confidential and should not use them for personal gain.
• Referees should make their criticisms and suggestions in a polite and constructive manner.
• Enmity, slander and insulting, derogatory comments and criticism should not be directed against the author.
• Referees should express their opinions with arguments that clearly support them.
• If the reviewers detect a substantial similarity between the evaluated work and another previously published work, they should notify the editor.

Conflict of Interest
Individuals should inform the editorial board about possible conflicts of interest so that the articles can be evaluated within the framework of ethical principles and an independent process can be carried out. Situations that provide economic or personal benefits create a conflict of interest. The reliability of the scientific process and published articles; It is directly related to the objective handling of conflicts of interest during the planning, implementation, writing, evaluation, editing and publication of scientific work.
Actions Considered Unethical by the Journal of Fruit Science
• Plagiarism: To present the original ideas, methods, data or works of others as one's own work, in whole or in part, without attribution in accordance with scientific rules,
• Fraud: Using non-existent or falsified data in scientific research
• Distortion: To falsify research records or obtained data, to present devices or materials that are not used in the research as if they were used, to falsify or shape the research results in line with the interests of the people and institutions that receive support,
• Republishing (Duplication): Presenting duplicate publications as separate publications in academic appointments and promotions,
• Slicing: Separating the results of a research in a way that violates the integrity of the research and inappropriately and publishing it in more than one issue and presenting these publications as separate publications in academic appointments and promotions,
• Unfair authorship: Including people who do not have active contributions among the authors or not including those who do, changing the order of authors unjustifiably and inappropriately, removing the names of those who contributed actively from the work in subsequent editions, having their name included among the authors by using their influence even though they do not have active contributions,
• Not specifying the people, institutions or organizations that support them and their contributions in the publications made as a result of research carried out with support,
• Using the thesis or studies that have not yet been presented or defended and accepted as a source without the permission of the owner,
• Failure to comply with ethical rules in research on humans and animals, not respecting patient rights in their publications, harming animal health and ecological balance, not obtaining necessary permissions,
• To misuse the resources, places, facilities and devices provided or allocated for scientific research,
• Making false or misleading statements regarding scientific research and publications in academic appointments and promotions,

PUBLICATION POLICY
• Our journal uses the double blind peer review system, in which the identities of the referees and authors are hidden from each other.
• Journal of Fruit Science is an open access, peer-reviewed journal that publishes original research articles and reviews covering the practical and theoretical aspects of fruit growing and viticulture. In the journal; in a wide range of topics including fruit growing and breeding, physiology, postharvest technologies, plant protection, soil science and plant nutrition, organic agriculture, agricultural economics, food science and technology, genetic resources, agricultural machinery, agricultural biotechnology, agricultural structures and irrigation" Original research articles and a limited number of reviews related to fruit growing and viticulture are included.
• In one number; Review articles with high originality, up to 20% of the total articles, can be included.
• Even if the review articles are prepared upon the call of the editorial commission, they are published after going through the normal review and evaluation process.
• The works requested to be published must not have been published anywhere or sent to any journal for publication.
• However; Only articles whose abstracts have been published by being presented in national or international congresses can be accepted for publication.
• For this reason, similarity scanning of the articles sent to the journal by the authors should be done with the iThenticate program and the report should be uploaded to the system.
• The similarity rate should be at most 20%, excluding references.
• Research articles whose results are known beforehand and which are not innovative, due diligence and local studies, and studies based on secondary data and only simple surveys are outside the scope of the journal.
• The work sent for publication is subjected to preliminary examination by the “Chief Editor” in accordance with the publication principles. The Editor-in-Chief has the right to return the articles to the author(s) that he/she does not find suitable for publication in the journal.
• In addition, articles that do not comply with the spelling rules or whose language of expression is insufficient can be returned to the author(s) for correction.
• It is decided whether the studies sent to the journal for publication will be evaluated within 3 weeks and the author is informed about the situation.
• The evaluated articles are sent to at least 2 referees who are subject experts for review by the Department Editors.
• In case one of the referees rejects or the report is not considered sufficient, a 3rd referee may be appointed by the editor.
• Each referee is given 1 week for accepting the article evaluation invitation and 3 weeks for the evaluation of the article.
• The article, which receives two positive referee reports during the evaluation process, is accepted to be published in the journal with the approval of the department editor and the editorial board.
• Corrections of the articles that pass the peer-review should be made by the author and uploaded to the system within 15 days at the latest. Submissions after this time will not be accepted.
• Section Editors advise the Journal Editorial Board on whether to publish the article, taking into account the referee's reports and/or whether the requested corrections are sufficient. The Editorial Board meeting under the chairmanship of the Editor-in-Chief is the final decision maker.
• The Journal of Fruit Science has adopted an open access policy for published articles. open access; By increasing the global exchange of knowledge, it will have beneficial results for humanity.
• Copyright Transfer Agreement should be signed by all authors and uploaded to the system along with the works sent to the journal for publication.
• The Manuscript Checklist should be uploaded to the system only after being signed by the responsible author.
