Abstract

Kişisel ve toplumsal hikayelerden beslenen bir unsur olarak sanat, nesiller boyunca hem kolektif belleğin bir yansıması olarak öne çıkmış, hem de bu belleğin oluşmasına yardımcı olmuştur. Bu bağlamda toplumların geçirdiği politik ve sosyal süreçlerle ilişki içerisinde olmanın ötesinde, bu süreçlere farklı perspektiflerden bakmanın da bir aracıdır. Bu da, nesiller arası bağın kurulumunu belirlemekte ve bu bağın yansımaları, başka birçok alanda olduğu gibi, sanatta da kendini göstermektedir. Kıbrıs’ta 1963-1974 yılları arasında yaşanan çatışma ve bunun ardından gelen bölünme ve göç de, bellek temelinde adadaki sanatın üretimine yön veren bir dönüşüm alanı açmıştır. Halen bölünmüş olan adanın kuzeyinde yaşayan, farklı nesillerden üç sanatçının çalışmalarını konu alan bu makale, savaş ve bölünmenin yarattığı travmanın bu sanatçıların çalışmalarındaki etkisini incelemektedir.

Reflections of Intergenerational Trauma on Cypriot Art

Abstract

As an element nourished by personal and social stories, art has stood out as a reflection of collective memory throughout generations and has helped create this memory. Beyond being in relationship with the political and social processes that societies go through, it is also a tool for looking at these processes from different perspectives. This determines the establishment of the bond between generations, and the reflections of this bond manifest themselves in art. The conflict in Cyprus and the subsequent division opened an area of transformation that guided the production of art on the island based on memory. This article, which includes the artworks of three artists from different generations living in the northern part of the island, examines the impact of the trauma caused by war and division on the works of these artists.
