The Locus of Participation Banking within the Banking Sector and its Contribution to the Financial Stability in Turkey
Abstract
This study, which examines the position of the participation banks in the banking sector in
Turkey, aims to state the share of participation banking in the sector and their contribution
to the financial stability by the performance indicators. Some recent indicators of the
banking sector as a whole and the participation banks that alleges themselves to be
established according to Islamic rules, are compared in the study and the effects of
participation banks on the stability of financial markets in Turkey are analysed as well. The
sustainable contributions of the participation banks on financial stability are assessed by
their performance, particularly in the recent years, according to the indicators such as
asset, equity, branch, and personnel growth; and profitability etc. and various suggestions
are given on the issue.
