SEKÜLERLEŞME TEORİSİ

Abstract

20. yüzyılın ikinci yarısında din sosyologlarının sekülerleşmenin ne olduğuna ve ne olmadığına dair yaptıkları uzun tartışmalar onlarca kitap ve yüzlerce makalenin konusu oldu. Son yarım asır boyunca sosyoloji dünyasının bir karakteristik özelliği de sekülerleşmeyi tanımlama ve ölçme yöntemleri konusunda yaşanan derin anlaşmazlıklardı. Tüm bu anlaşmazlıklara rağmen, Batı eksenli sosyoloji literatüründe kendisine sıkça yer bulan sekülerleşme paradigması, kimi anlaşılabilir sebeplerden dolayı Türkiye akademi dünyasının çok ilgisini çekmedi. Buna paralel olarak sekülerleşme kelimesi Türkiye'deki yazılı ve görsel basında ya hiç kullanılmadı ya da dinsizlik veya laikleşme ile karıştırıldı. Sekülerleşme paradigmasının Türkiye'de yaşadığı bu sancılı süreçten dolayı bu makalenin birinci bölümünde öncelikle sekülerleşme paradigmasının ne olduğunu tartışılmaktadır. İkinci bölümde ise sekülerleşme paradigmasını daha net şekilde ifade edebilmek, "sekülerleşme eşittir dinin yok olması" şeklindeki genel algının yanlışlığını gösterebilmek ve sekülerleşmenin bir ideoloji değil son yüzyılın en önemli teorilerinden biri olduğunu ifade edebilmek için sekülerleşme paradigmasının ne olmadığını anlatılmaktadır.
