Abstract

This paper deals with the validity of Environmental Kuznets Curve (EKC) hypothesis for 18 OECD countries in the 1960-2008 period. Due to the fact that for these countries the relationship between environmental pollution and economic growth is seen as a result of Breitung Panel unit root test and panel cointegration tests, it is concluded that the given hypothesis is valid in the long term. This relationship of short and long-term is estimated with by means of panel error correction model

Abstract

Bu çalışmada, 1960–2008 döneminde 18 OECD ülkesi için Çevresel Kuznets Eğrisi (EKC) hipotezinin geçerliliği sınanmıştır. Breitung Panel birim kök testi ve ardından yapılan panel eşbütünleşme testleri neticesinde 18 OECD ülkesi için çevre kirliliği ile ekonomik büyüme arasında ilişki oluğu görüldüğünden uzun dönemde söz konusu hipotezin geçerli olduğu sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Kısa ve uzun dönemli bu ilişki, panel hata düzeltme modeli yardımıyla tahmin edilmiştir.
