Amaç: Önemli bir ağız sağlığı sorunu olan diş kaybının, belirlenen popülasyonda yaşa bağlı olarak dağılımını incelemek ve yaş ile diş kaybı şiddetinin ilişkili olduğunu doğrulamak amaçlanmıştır. Ayrıca kullanılacak olan sınıflama sayesinde kaybedilen dişlerin ağızda işgal ettikleri konum hakkında da bilgi sahibi olunacaktır.
Gereç ve Yöntemler: Çalışmaya belirli tarihler arasında Necmettin Erbakan Üniversitesi Diş Hekimliği Fakültesi’ne başvuran, 20-64 yaş aralığında 210 hasta dahil edilmiştir. Kayıp dişlerin konum ve sayılarını içeren güncel bir sınıflama ile hastalar incelenmiş ve sonuçlar istatistiksel olarak değerlendirilmiştir.
Bulgular: Hastaların ortalama diş kaybı 7.2 diş olarak tespit edilmiştir ve cinsiyete bağlı bir değişim göstermemiştir. En sık kaybedilen diş 18 numara ve onu takiben 1. Daimi büyük azı dişileri olmuştur. Yapılan istatistiksel değerlendirme sonucunda diş kaybı şiddeti ile yaş arasında anlamlı bir ilişki tespit edilmiştir.
Sonuç: Diş kaybının yaş ile ilişkili olduğu doğrulanmıştır. Daha fazla diş kaybını önlemek ve sağlıklı yaşlanmayı teşvik etmek için yetişkinlere yönelik ağız ve diş sağlığını geliştirme programları uygulanmalıdır. Diş kaybı ile ilişkili faktörlerin tanımlanması için, daha kapsamlı çalışmalar gerekmektedir.
