Abstract

Amaç: Bu araştırmanın amacı Mart 2019 – Mayıs 2021 tarihleri arasında ağız ve diş sağlığı hizmetine ihtiyaç duyan yetişkin bireyler üzerinde COVID-19 pandemi sürecinin etkisini değerlendirmektir. Ayrıca bireylerin ağız ve diş problemlerinin tedavisi için ödemeye razı oldukları ücretin tespit edilmesi amaçlanmıştır.
Gereç ve Yöntem: Araştırmada COVID-19 pandemisinin ağız ve diş sağlığı problemi yaşayan hastalar üzerindeki etkisini belirlemek amacıyla soru formu oluşturulmuştur. Araştırmanın evrenini Mart 2019 – Mayıs 2021 tarihleri arasında Konya’da ağız ve diş sağlığı hizmetine ihtiyaç duyan yetişkinler oluşturmaktadır. Araştırmada olasılıklı olmayan örnekleme yöntemlerinden kartopu örnekleme yöntemi ile 283 kişiye ulaşılmıştır.
Bulgular: Katılımcıların %42,8’i diş ağrısı, %26,9’u diş etinde şişlik ve %19,4’ü diş kırılması şikayeti nedeni ile ağız ve diş sağlığı hizmetine ihtiyaç duymuştur. Katılımcıların %25,1’i problemini 1-3 hafta arasında %20’5’i ise 3 aydan daha fazla bir süre yaşamıştır. Yaşadıkları ağız ve diş problemi sonucunda katılımcıların %49,8’i herhangi bir diş hekimliği hizmeti alamadıklarını, %26,9’unun özel diş hekimliği kliniğinde tedavi aldığı, %16,3’ü ise kamu kurumunda diş hekimliği hizmeti aldığını belirtmiştir. Ağız ve diş sağlığı hizmeti alamayanların %49,1’i COVID-19’dan korktuğu için tedavisini ertelemiş, %43,1’i ise kamu kurumlarından randevu alamadığı için tedavi hizmeti görememiştir. Katılımcılara yaşamış oldukları ağız ve diş problemini gidermek için ne kadar ücret ödemeye razı oldukları sorulduğunda ise çoğunluğun 500 TL altında bir ödemeye razı olduğu tespit edilmiştir.
Sonuç: COVID-19 pandemi sürecinde diş hekimliği hizmetlerine erişimde zorluklar yaşanmıştır. Diş hekimliği hizmetlerine erişim zorlukları ve hastaların COVID-19 korkusu ağız ve diş sağlığı tedavilerinin alınamaması veya bilinçli olarak ertelenmesine neden olmuştur.

Reflections from the COVID-19 Pandemic Process Patients Waiting for Oral and Dental Health Services

Abstract

Aim: The aim of this research is to evaluate the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic process on adult individuals who need oral and dental health services between March 2019 and May 2021. In addition, it is aimed to determine the price that individuals are willing to pay for the treatment of oral and dental problems.
Material and Method: In the research, a questionnaire was created to determine the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on patients with oral and dental health problems. The population of the research consists of adults who need oral and dental health services in Konya between March 2019 and May 2021. In the study, 283 people were reached by snowball sampling method.
Results: 26.9% of participants had swollen gums, and 42.8% had toothaches. 20.5% of the participants experienced the problem for more than 3 months. Due to their oral and dental issues, 49.8% of the participants they were unable to acquire any dentistry services, 26.9% of them sought treatment at a private dental office. 49.1% of individuals who were unable to access oral and dental health services delayed their treatment due to COVID-19 fear, and 43.1% were unable to receive care because they were unable to schedule an appointment with public institutions. Most of the participants were willing to pay less than 500 TL to get their oral and dental is-sues fixed.
Conclusion: Due to access challenges for dentist and people's fear of the COVID-19 virus, treatments for oral and dental health have either not been received or have been purposely delayed. To avoid restrictions on oral and dental health care during similar pandemic periods, proactive strategies should be devised. Services for immediate oral and dental health should be increased.
