Abstract
Objective: The aim of our study is to evaluate the level of physical activity in female academicians. The search for quality life is one of the most just struggles of human beings between birth and death. Nowadays, in parallel with technology, the place of movement has started to decrease gradually in both working life and transportation and leisure activities. The increase in living standards has increased the physical and social needs of people due to the intense competitive environment and stress of life. Considering the benefits of physical activity, people should be encouraged to exercise at the most appropriate level for healthier individuals.
Material and Methods: 40 female academicians working at a desk according to the volunteering principle were included in the research. Data on physical activity variable were obtained by using the short form of International Physical Activity Assessment Questionnaire (IPAQ).
Results: The mean age of the female academicians included in the study was 35.4 (min 25-max 63). Average height 167.9cm (min.157.0 cm, max.177.0 cm), body weight 59.5kg (min. 51kg, max 77kg), body mass index of 21.3 kg/m² (min.17.7 kg/m², max 25 kg/m²) The mean time spent on one day (OBGGS) was 132.2 min. (min. 0 min., max 480 min.) and the mean duration of physical activity (FA) was 412 min./week. 45% of the total cases did not have physical activity during the day; 52.5% were inactive, 30% were minimum active and 20% were very active.
Conclusion: In the study, it was found that physical activity levels of female academicians at Necmettin Erbakan University were low and minimum active
