DIATOM CONTENT AND PALAEOECOLOGICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF LATE MIOCENE-EARLY PLIOCENE AGED DIATOMITES IN TAHAR-GÜZELÖZ (NEVŞEHİR)

Abstract

   Seventy-three species of 21 different diatom
genera were identified from three stratigraphic sections which are located in
the late Miocene-early Pliocene volcanosedimentary units in Tahar and Güzelöz
(Nevşehir) areas. One of these sections was measured in the Tahar area (in the
late Miocene age Bayramhacılı Member of Ürgüp Formation), and the two sections
were measured in the Güzelöz area (early Pliocene age Kışladağ Member of Ürgüp
Formation). When evaluated of the investigated area diatomite’s palaeoecological
properties by considering the distribution of numerical values (in 20
microscopic slide area) of the determined diatom genus and species; It have
been determined that, when the formation of the diatomite at all three
locations, the lake water has neutral and acid properties. At the Tahar and
Güzelöz-2 locations the lake water was fresh water feature, also, in the
Güzelöz-1 location the lake water was initially as fresh water feature and than
changed to bitter water character towards to top of the section. At the Tahar
location (late Miocene); lake water’s level and temperature was high, the
bottom of the lake was muddy. The nutrient ratio of lake water was initially
low-moderate, later increased towards to top of the section. Lake water's
oxygen ratio was initially high, later in the middle level. At the Güzelöz–1
location (early Pliocene); lake water’s level and nutrient was variable. There
were plants at the bottom of the lake. Lake water's oxygen ratio was initially
high, later in the middle level. The lake water’s temperature ratio was
initially low, later increased towards to top of the section. Also, lake
water's oxygen ratio was initially high, later in the middle level. At the
Güzelöz-2 location; lake water’s level, temperature and nutrient was high.

TAHAR-GÜZELÖZ (NEVŞEHİR) GEÇ MİYOSEN-ERKEN PLİYOSEN YAŞLI DİYATOMİTLERİNİN DİYATOM İÇERİĞİ VE PALEOEKOLOJİK ÖZELLİKLERİ

Abstract

   Nevşehir ili,  Tahar ve Güzelöz yörelerinde geç
Miyosen-erken Pliyosen yaşlı volkanosedimenter birimler içerisinde yeralan
diyatomitlerden biri Tahar yöresinde (geç Miyosen yaşlı Ürgüp Formasyonu'nun
Bayramhacılı Üyesi içerisinde), ikisi Güzelöz yöresinde (erken Pliyosen yaşlı
Ürgüp Formasyonu'nun Kışladağ Üyesi içerisinde) olmak üzere ölçülen stratigrafık
kesitlerden 21 diyatom cinsine ait 73 tür tanımlanmıştır. Tanımlanan diyatom
cins ve türlerinin 20 mikroskobik slayt alandaki bolluk dağılımları dikkate
alınarak, inceleme alanındaki diyatomitlerin paleoekolojik özellikleri
yorumlandığında; her üç lokasyonda diyatomitlerin oluşumu sırasında göl suyunun
nötr ve asit özellik gösterdiği, Tahar ve Güzelöz–2 lokalitelerinde
diyatomitlerin oluşumu sırasında göl suyunun tatlı su özelliğinde olduğu,
Güzelöz–1 lokalitesinde ise tatlı su özelliğinde başlayıp, tavana doğru acı su
özelliğine dönüştüğü, Tahar lokalitesinde (geç Miyosen); göldeki su seviyesinin
ve su sıcaklığının yüksek olduğu, göl tabanında çamur bulunduğu, göl suyunun
besin oranının başlangıçta düşük-orta başlayıp, tavana doğru ise arttığını, göl
suyunun oksijen oranının başlangıçta yüksek, daha sonra orta seviyede
bulunduğu, Güzelöz–1 (erken Pliyosen) lokalitesinde; göldeki su seviyesinin ve
besin oranının değişken olduğu, göl tabanınında bitkilerin bulunduğu, su
sıcaklığının başlangıçta düşük, daha sonra yüksek olduğunu, göl suyunun oksijen
oranının başlangıçta yüksek, daha sonra orta seviyede bulunduğu, Güzelöz–2
(erken Pliyosen) lokalitesinde; göldeki su seviyesinin, su sıcaklığının ve
besin oranının yüksek olduğu belirlenmiştir.
