İzlenim Yönetimi Üzerine Yapılan Akademik Çalışmaların Betimsel İçerik Analiz Yöntemiyle İncelenmesi/ Analyzing Academic Studies on Impression Management with Descriptive Content Analysis Method

Abstract

In this study, a descriptive content analysis was conducted to determine the temporal trends in the national literature on impression management in Dergipark and YÖKTEZ Center databases. Descriptive content analysis, one of the most frequently used content analyses among qualitative research techniques, is a systematic study in which research on a specific topic is examined and the general trends of research results are discussed in a certain dimension (Çalık & Sözbilir, 2014, p. 34; Dinçer, 2018, p. 177). As a result of the analysis, a total of 98 empirical and non-empirical studies included in the scope of the research were examined according to the year of publication, the university/journal in which they were published, the method used, the sample group studied, the scales used and the topics studied. The studies examined mostly “business employees” and “teachers” and used quantitative research methods (surveys). The scales developed by Bolino and Turnley (1999) and Bolino and Turnley (1999) and adapted into Turkish by Basım et al. (2006) are used mostly. The variables most associated with impression management are personality traits and leader-member interaction. The fact that quantitative research techniques are mostly preferred in studies reveals the need for a mixed research design which includes qualitative data collection techniques such as observation and interviews.
In the future, content analysis can be made by using international databases such as WOS and Scopus. Thus, national, and international studies can be evaluated comparatively in terms of the trends of the subject over the years, the details of the subject, and the variables used.

Abstract

Farklı disiplinlerde ele alınan izlenim yönetimi, 1980’li yıllardan itibaren örgüt ve yönetim araştırmalarında yoğun olarak incelenen, bireysel ve örgütsel davranışların açıklanmasında ve anlaşılmasında kullanılan önemli yaklaşımlardan biridir. Bu çalışmanın amacı: YÖKTEZ merkezi ve DergiPark veri tabanlarında yer alan izlenim yönetimi konusu ile ilgili yapılan akademik çalışmaların betimsel içerik analiz yöntemi ile incelenmesidir. Bu amaçla, DergiPark ve Yükseköğretim Kurumu Ulusal Tez Merkezi veri tabanlarında “İzlenim yönetim” anahtar kelimesi ile konu/tez başlıklarında tarama yapılmıştır. Tarama sonucunda toplam 104 çalışmaya ulaşılmıştır. Ulaşılan çalışmalar künyeleri incelendiğinde 98 adet çalışma izlenim yönetimi konusu ve kapsamı ile ilgili olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Buna göre araştırma kapsamına dahil edilen çalışmalar yayınlandıkları yıla, dergiye, üniversiteye, kullandıkları araştırma türüne, veri toplama araçlarına, çalışıldıkları örneklem grubuna ve hangi değişkenlerle ele alındığı kriterleri çerçevesinde betimsel içerik analiz yöntemi ile analiz edilmiştir. Analiz sonucunda, söz konusu kavramın literatürdeki gelişimine ilişkin konu ile ilgili yazılmış bilimsel yayınların genel bir profili oluşturulmuştur ve ilgili araştırmacılara gelecek araştırmalar için öneriler sunulmuştur.
