BELIEFS OF THE PRESERVICE SCIENCE TEACHERS ABOUT CREATIVITY

Abstract

Creativity is very important for development of technology and science, and finding new explorations. Education given at school has an important role in order to feature the students' creativity. The ideas of the teachers such that the creativity was not an endowment, but could be improved by training given later is very important for providing the development of the creativity in students. Therefore in the study, the effect of the education given at education faculties on the teacher candidates' ideas about discovering and developing the creativity was tried to be determined by presenting the teacher candidates' ideas about creativity. The subjects of this study consisted of 69 teacher candidates reading at 4th grade of Elementary School Science Education Department of an Education Faculty existing in Aegean Region at fall semester of 2006-2007 academic year. In the study, in order to collect data, "Creative Idea Scale" which was developed by Diakidoy and Kanari (1999) and adapted to Turkish by İşler and Bilgin (2002) was used. At the end of the study it was seen that the teacher candidates highly believed the ideas such that the creative individuals must have similar features like the specified ones in the field literature, the school did not support the creativity, there was a correlation between mind and creativity, and knowledge had a role on creativity.
