THE EFFECTS OF JIGSAW TECHNIQUE ON THE ACHIEVEMENTS PRIMARY EDUCATION SIXTH GRADE SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY COURSE

Abstract

The aim of this study is to search the study of the unit of "Reproduction, Growing and Development in Animates" that takes place in the program of the Science and Technology Lesson of 6th grade students in primary school, to be studied by applying a jigsaw technique and this technique's effects on students' success. In this study, the pre and post test research model with control group was used. The sample of the study consists of 46 students from two different sixth grade classrooms in an elementary school which is taught by the same teacher. The research is carried out during the fall semester of 2010-2011 educational year for during six weeks. The classrooms were chosen randomly as a control and an experimental group.In conclusion, it has been found that there are significant differences between achievements of the two groups. Judging from this result, it can be said that the jigsaw technique is more effective than the others constructivist teaching methods on science achievement.

İLKÖĞRETİM 6. SINIF FEN VE TEKNOLOJİ DERSİ ÖĞRETİMİNDE JİGSAW TEKNİĞİNİN ÖĞRENCİLERİN AKADEMİK BAŞARILARI ÜZERİNE ETKİSİ

Abstract

Bu çalışmanın amacı, ilköğretim 6. sınıf öğrencilerinin “Canlılarda Üreme, Büyüme ve Gelişme” ünitesini öğrenmelerinde jigsaw tekniğinin etkisini araştırmaktır. Araştırmada deney-kontrol gruplu ön-test/son-test modeli uygulanmıştır. Çalışma grubunu Denizli’de bulunan bir özel ilköğretim okulunun altıncı sınıflarında okuyan 46 öğrenci oluşturmaktadır. Çalışma 2010–2011 öğretim yılının güz döneminde, ilköğretim altıncı sınıf “Canlılarda Üreme, Büyüme ve Gelişme” ünitesi boyunca altı hafta süreyle uygulanmıştır. Çalışmada veri toplama aracı olarak araştırmacılar tarafından hazırlanan 25 çoktan seçmeli sorudan oluşan başarı testi kullanılmıştır. Verilerin analizi sonucunda; deney ve kontrol gruplarının başarıları arasında anlamlı bir farklılık bulunmuştur. Bu fark deney grubu lehinedir. Sonuç olarak ilköğretim altıncı sınıf fen ve teknoloji dersinde jigsaw tekniğinin öğrencilerin ders başarısını arttırmada diğer yapılandırmacı yöntemlere göre daha etkilidir.
