PRIMARY TEACHER CANDIDATES' SCIENCE TEACHING SELF-EFFICACY BELIEFS AND THEIR OPINIONS REGARDING TO THE EFFECTIVE FACTORS OF SELF-EFFICACY BELIEFS

Abstract

The purpose of the study is to determine the science teaching self-efficacy beliefs of the fourth class students of Primary School Education Program at Anadolu University and to get their opinions regarding to the effective factors of self-efficacy beliefs in the spring term of 2005-2006 academic year. The mixed research method was used in this study. The data were collected via Science Teaching Efficacy Belief Instrument and through semi-structured interviews. According to the results of this research, it was found that the level of science teaching self-efficacy beliefs of teacher candidates were upper-intermediate. Also, it was found that no meaningful difference in the teacher candidates' self-efficacy beliefs according to the gender and the type of high school.

Abstract

Bu araştırmanın amacı, Anadolu Üniversitesi Eğitim Fakültesi İlköğretim Bölümü Sınıf Öğretmenliği öğrencilerinin fen öğretimine yönelik öz-yeterlik inançlarını belirleyerek, birtakım değişkenlere göre karşılaştırmalar yapmak ve öğretmen adaylarının öz-yeterlik inançlarını etkileyen etmenlerin neler olduğuna ilişkin görüşlerini almaktır. Bu araştırmada yöntem çeşitlemesi yoluna gidilmiştir. Araştırmanın örneklemini, 2005-2006 öğretim yılı bahar döneminde Anadolu Üniversitesi Eğitim Fakültesi İlköğretim Bölümü Sınıf Öğretmenliği 4. sınıfında öğrenim görmekte olan öğretmen adayları oluşturmuştur. Araştırmanın nitel boyutunda ise nicel boyuttaki örneklemde yer alan öğretmen adaylarından seçkisiz örnekleme yoluyla bir seçime gidilmiştir. Araştırmanın sonunda, sınıf öğretmeni adaylarının fen öğretimi öz-yeterlik inançlarının ortanın biraz üstünde olduğu sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Fen öğretimi öz-yeterlik inançları açısından cinsiyetin ve liseden mezun olunan alanın önemli bir faktör olmadığı görülmüştür.
