FINANCIAL PERFORMANCE BASED EFFICIENCY MEASUREMENT: APPLICATION OF CEMENT INDUSTRY
Abstract
In increasingly competitive environment conditions nowadays, it is necessary to evaluate financial indicators by taking efficiencies of the companies into account. Construction firms must be able to measure their financial efficiencies for competing with national and international companies. Data envelopment analysis is on the basis of the identification of a large number of input and output variables used in the calculation of the efficiency levels of firms based on mathematical program and is a non-parametric technique for the measurement. In this study, measurements of efficiency of the companies operating in the cement sector in Turkey at the period of 1998-2009 implemented and evaluated with this method using the best financial ratios at that period. As a result of the analysis efficient and inefficient companies are identified and necessary proposals are given to the companies for improving their efficiency
