Medya okuryazarly?y kavramynyn, Türkiye'de, bilimsel platformlarda tarty?ylmaya ba?lanmasy, Radyo Televizyon Üst Kurulu'nun (RTÜK) 2000'li yyllaryn ortalaryndan itibaren konuyu gündemine almasyny sonuçlandyrmy?tyr. Bu amaçla RTÜK ve Milli E?itim Bakanly?y (MEB) i?birli?iyle bir proje hazyrlanmy? ve medya okuryazarly?y dersinin ilkö?retim okullarynda seçmeli ders olarak okutulmasy yönünde önemli bir giri?im ba?latylmy?tyr. Medya okuryazarly?y dersi 2007–2008 e?itim-ö?retim yylyndan itibaren tüm Türkiye'deki ilkö?retim okullarynda 6, 7 ve 8. synyflarda seçmeli ders olarak okutulmaya ba?lanmy?tyr. Bu ara?tyrma; medya okuryazarly?y dersini alan ilkö?retim ö?rencilerinin medya izleme aly?kanlyklaryny Kayseri örne?inde tespit etmeyi amaçlamaktadyr. Ara?tyrma sonuçlary, ilkö?retim medya okuryazarly?y ö?retim programyyla aranan amaçlaryn ve sonuçlaryn ne ölçüde benimsedi?inin/günlük ya?am pratiklerinin bütünle?ik bir parçasy yapyldy?ynyn belirlenmesine, konu ve içeriksel kapsam çerçevesinde, temel olu?turmasy bakymyndan önemlidir. Ara?tyrma, Kayseri Kocasinan ve Melikgazi merkez ilçelerindeki ilkö?retim okullarynda okuyan ve medya okuryazarly?y dersini alan 1194 6, 7 ve 8. synyf ö?rencisine belirlenen zaman ve yerde uygulanmy?tyr. Ara?tyrma sonuçlary, medya okuryazarly?y dersini alan ilkö?retim ö?rencilerinin kitle ileti?im araçlaryny bilinçli bir ?ekilde izlemediklerini ortaya çykarmy?tyr.
Media literacy can be outlined as the ability to access, analyze, evaluate and transmit media messages of diverse forms. As the concept of media literacy emerged as a scholarly debate, it left RTÜK (High Council for Broadcasting) with the compulsion of taking the issue in its agenda through the 2000's. A joint project was developed by the RTÜK and The Ministry of Education to establish media literacy as an elective course in primary education. The media literacy course has been integrated into the Turkish curriculum as an elective course in the educational year of 2007-2008 for the 6th, 7th and 8th classes. The objective of this study is to determine the media viewing habits of schoolchildren who toke media literacy courses on the sample of Kayseri city. The results of the study are important in assessing the degree of adoption of the goals and results sought by media literacy education program as a basis for further content and subject development. The study has been conducted on 1194 schoolchildren of 6th, 7th and 8th grades in the Kayseri central districts of Kocasinan and Melikgazi. The results show that the participants did not have an efficient level of consciousness towards media broadcasts and content.
