A NEW ALGORITHM FOR OFSETTING FEATURES CONTAINING ARC
Abstract
Reliable tool path generation for pocket milling application is very important. To generation of tool path, profile of pocket must be derived properly. When offsetting of features consisted only lines is easy, offsetting of elements including the arc is complex and difficult. The method presented in this study, connection point of this features with lines and arcs constituting profile are also participated in the offsetting process. Analytical equations of lines and arcs are acquired using coordinate data of features forming profile and then superficial offsetting is completed. At the next step, offsetting features are broken from intersections for throwing away the surplus and so errors are eliminated by removing the invalid offset parts.
