Abstract
Newborn hearing screening is absolutely crucial in early diagnosis of congenital hearing loss. The values of newborn congenital
hearing loss change ranging from 0.13-0.60% for bilateral hearing loss and change ranging from 0.17 to 0.38% for unilateral hearing loss
after hearing screening. The children’s speech and language development which have hearing loss particularly affected. As well as the
child's social, emotional and mental development are affected in varying degrees. The early diagnosis and treatment of infants with
hearing loss could be allowed by routine newborn hearing screening. Materials and Methods: The newborn hearing screening results of
Ordu University Faculty of Medicine Research and Training Hospital were presented in this study. Results: Bilateral hearing loss has been
detected in 7 (0.14%) babies. Unilateral hearing loss has been detected in 5 (0.11%) babies. This total hearing loss of 12 (0.25%) patients
ratio was consistent with the literature. Conclusion: As a result, newborn hearing screening should be performed for all infants as well as
the risk factors that babies should be determined.
