An Overview of Pituitary Follicular-Stellate Cells

Year 2021, Volume: 8 Issue: 1, 24 - 28, 30.04.2021

Abstract

The pituitary gland is a small endocrine organ with an average weight of 0.5 grams, located on the bone structure called sella turcica at the base of the brain and surrounded by the diaphragmatic sella extension of the dura mater. Folliculo-stellate cells are one of the cells found in the pituitary gland. Unlike pituitary endocrine cells, these cells do not synthesize hormones. They have cytoplasmic extensions, similar to stellate cells found in the liver and pancreas. Light microscopic and electron microscopic studies have provided many data on these cells. However, although many morphological and functional features of these cells have been discovered in studies carried out to date, their basic functions are still not fully known. In this study, it is aimed to compile data on the general properties and functions of folliculo-stellate cells.

Hipofiz Follikülo-Stellat Hücrelerine Genel Bir Bakış

Year 2021, Volume: 8 Issue: 1, 24 - 28, 30.04.2021
