Measurement of Colloidal Forces Between Glass Sphere and Colemanite Surface in NaCl Aqueous Electrolytes

Abstract

The aim of the present investigation was to analysis the interactions of colemanite crystal surface with surrounding fluids and colloidal particles. Specifically, in this research, the interactions between colemanite surface and glass colloidal probe were studied using the atomic force microscopy (AFM). The colloidal forces were measured in 0.001M NaCl aqueous solutions at pH values from ~7 to 10 to explore a transition from attractive to repulsive forces when the surface charge potential for colemanite changes from positive to negative at isoelectric point (IEP) located near pH~10.
