Clear cell myoepithelioma of minor salivary gland of palate

Abstract

Myoepitheliomas are rare salivary gland tumors, chiefly occur in major salivary glands, their occurrence in minor salivary glands of oral cavity is exceedingly rare. Histopathologically, these tumors show varied patterns including spindle cell, epitheloid, plasmacytoid and clear cell patterns. These tumors can show either a single cell predominate pattern or an admixture of different cell types, sometimes they show an overlapping microscopic patterns, hence postulate a diagnostic challenge. This paper depicts a rare presentation of palatal clear cell myoepithelioma in a 30 year old lady. The palatal growth was asymptomatic and was provisionally diagnosed as fibroma. Histopathological and immunohistochemical findings yielded the final diagnosis of Clear cell myoepithelioma
