SUMMARY
THE PROPHYLACTIC USE OF PIPERACILLIN IN PATIENTS WITH UROLITHIASIS UNDERGOING OPEN UROLOGIC SURGERY
Thirty-five non-infected patients with urolithiasis undergoing open urologic surgery received piperacillin sodium preoperatively 2 gr and posetoperatively 4 gr. The efficacy of this antibiotic regimen in decreasing the risk of postoperative urinary infection was reviewed. Postoperative urinary infection occured in 1 patient (2.86%) in the prophylaxy group compared with 4 patients (22.22%) in the control group. But the difference between two groups was- not statistically important.
