SUMMARY
THE IMPORTANCE OF PROPHYLACTIC IRON ADMINISTRATION IN PREGNANCY
This prospective study was made on 32 pregnant women, who were found to be non-anemic according to the hematologic parameters measured between the 28-32nd weeks of the pregnancy. Iron therapy was given to 16 pregnant women, who were chosen as experiment group, who had an average of 8.62 ± 6.55 weeks until delivery. No treatment was given to the 16 pregnant women chosen as control group. In the hematologic parameters measured during delivery a significant increase of serum ferritin in experiment group, compared to the level measured in pretratment, was found (p< 0.001). No significant difference was seen between the hematologic parametric levels of experiment and control groups measured during delivery (p >0.05). The average serum ferritin level of the'new born babies of experiment group was found higher than the new born babies of the control group ( p<0.001 ).
