Abstract

Aim: In our study we scanned the polyps detected during the colonoscopic procedures performed in our endoscopy unit. We aimed to compare the polypectomy results with the literature.
Material and Method: In Aksaray University Training and Research Hospital Gastroenterology Endoscopy Unit 1806 colonoscopies performed between January 2016 and June 2018 were retrospectively reviewed. Patients’ gender, age and indications for colonoscopy were recorded. In addition, localization, size, number and histopathological features of polyps were recorded.
Results: A total of 341 polyps were detected in 224 (12.4%) of 1806 patients who underwent colonoscopy in our study. 95 of the patients were female (42.4%) and the mean age was 59.2 ± 11.9, while 195 were male (57.6%) and the mean age of the male was 57.4 ± 13.0. The most frequent indication for colonoscopy was constipation (35.7%). 74.3% of polyps were in the left colon. 77.4% of polyps were adenomatosis. Of 224 patients, 60 (26.7%) were in the high-risk group. Our rate of detection of adenocarcinoma was 4.9%.
Conclusion: In our study, we found that findings related to polyps detected as a result of endoscopic unit operations were generally consistent with the literature. Unlike previous studies, there was no statistically significant difference between the ages of high and low risk patients.

Abstract

Hastaların 95’i kadın (%42,4) ve yaş ortalamaları 59,2±11,9 iken 195’i erkek (%57,6), erkeklerin yaş ortalaması 57,4±13,0 idi.
