1691 Tarihli Cizye Defterine Göre Pertek, Mazgirt, Çemişgezek ve Sağman Kazaları
Abstract
The archival documents are the main sources for the investigation of the Ottoman history. These sources are very important as they are functioning like a bridge, conveying the past into present. In examining the Ottoman history, Jizya inventories are of great importance as these documents contain aspects relating to the people, places and time. This particular study focuses on the Jizya inventory of 1691 relating to Pertek, Mazgirt, Cemisgezek and Sagman districts of Diyarbekir Province. Jizya inventories relating to above mentioned districts, provides detailed information about the villages and quarters which accommodated the non-Muslim population and it reveals important hints regarding the physical appearances and occupations of these people at the time. In this sense, these specific documents are well-scrutinized in order to reveal the socio-economic and demographic dynamics of the aforementioned districts and suggestions are made about how info in these specific documents can be used in further studies.
