Investigation of Entrepreneurial Personality Traits in Terms of Demographic Factors: A Research on University Students

Abstract

Entrepreneurs play a crucial role in economic growth, job creation, innovation, and societal development. Accordingly, governments of both developed and developing countries are implementing the basic tools and supports required to encourage entrepreneurial mentality and efforts in individuals. Typically, entrepreneurs possess specific characteristics that help them differentiate themselves and successfully manage their ventures. The increase in the number of people who have achieved significant success by using their knowledge, experience and experience and taking many different types of risks brings to the fore the concept of entrepreneurship and the related personality traits of entrepreneurs. This study aimed to determine whether entrepreneurial personality traits vary based on demographic factors. To achieve this objective, research was conducted on students from the Engineering Faculty at Karabuk University. In the study, the survey method was used, and independent sample t-test and ANOVA were used in hypothesis tests. The research results indicated significant differences in the variables of locus of control and innovativeness based on the father's occupation. Additionally, the propensity for risk-taking exhibited meaningful distinctions according to gender and the desire to establish a business. The study also identified a significant differentiation in the need for achievement concerning the inclination to start a business.

Girişimci Kişilik Karakteristiklerinin Demografik Faktörler Açısından İncelenmesi: Üniversite Öğrencileri Üzerine Bir Araştırma

Abstract

Girişimciler, ekonomik büyüme, iş yaratma, inovasyon ve toplumların gelişimi için önemli rol oynamaktadırlar. Girişimciler genellikle belirli özelliklere sahip bireylerdir. Bu özellikler, girişimcilerin başkalarından farklılaşmalarına ve girişimlerini başarıyla yönetmelerine yardımcı olan temel niteliklerdir. Bu çalışmada girişimci kişilik karakteristiklerinin demografik faktörlere göre farklılaşıp farklılaşmadığının belirlenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Bu amaç doğrultusunda Karabük Üniversitesi Mühendislik Fakültesi öğrencileri üzerine bir araştırma gerçekleştirilmiştir. Araştırma sonucunda kontrol odağı ve yenilikçilik değişkenlerinin babanın mesleğine göre, risk alma eğiliminin de cinsiyet ve iş kurma isteğine göre anlamlı bir farklılık gösterdiği belirlenmiştir. Çalışmada ayrıca başarı ihtiyacının iş kurma isteğine göre anlamlı bir şekilde farklılaştığı tespit edilmiştir.
