The Journal of the Faculty of Theology at Pamukkale University adheres to national and international standards regarding research and publication ethics. It complies with the Press Law, the Law on Intellectual and Artistic Works, and the Guidelines on Scientific Research and Publication Ethics for Higher Education Institutions.
In preparing the journal’s ethical guidelines, the International Principles of Ethical Publishing issued by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) have been adopted.
Actions contrary to scientific research and publication ethics:
Plagiarism: Presenting the ideas, methods, data, applications, writings, figures, or works of others—in whole or in part—as one’s own without properly citing the original authors in accordance with scientific norms,
Fabrication: Generating data not based on research; manipulating, altering, reporting, or publishing a work based on false data; or presenting an unconducted study as if it had been conducted,
Falsification: Tampering with research records and obtained data; presenting methods, devices, and materials not used in the research as if they had been used; excluding data inconsistent with the research hypothesis from evaluation; manipulating data and/or results to align with relevant theories or assumptions; or distorting or shaping research results in the interests of the individuals or institutions providing support,
Duplicate publication: Submitting multiple works containing the same research results as separate works in associate professor examination evaluations and academic promotions,
Splitting: Dividing the results of a single research study into multiple publications in an inappropriate manner that compromises the integrity of the research, without citing each other, and presenting them as separate works in associate professor examination evaluations and academic promotions,
Unjustified authorship: Including individuals who did not make an active contribution among the authors, excluding individuals who did make an active contribution from the authorship list, altering the author order without justification or in an inappropriate manner, removing the names of those who made active contributions from the work during publication or in subsequent editions, or using one’s influence to have one’s name included among the authors despite lacking an active contribution,
Other types of ethical violations: Failing to clearly state the individuals, institutions, or organizations that provided support for research conducted with such support, and their contributions to the research; failing to comply with ethical guidelines in research involving humans and animals; failing to respect patient rights in publications; Sharing information from a manuscript assigned for peer review with others before its publication; misusing resources, facilities, equipment, or spaces provided or allocated for scientific research; making completely baseless, unfounded, and malicious allegations of ethical violations.
Ethics Committee Approval:
For any research conducted using qualitative or quantitative approaches that require data collection from participants through methods such as surveys, interviews, focus groups, observations, experiments, or other interview techniques, the author must obtain an Ethics Committee Report from the Ethics Committee of the university where they are affiliated.
• For all research conducted across all scientific disciplines that requires ethics committee approval (such approval must have been obtained, and this approval must be stated and documented in the article).
• In research requiring ethics committee approval, information regarding the approval (committee name, date, and approval number) must be included in the Methods section, as well as on either the first or last page of the article; in case reports, the article must include information confirming that the informed consent form was signed.
Authors’ Responsibilities
Authorship: All authors listed as principal investigators must have made a substantial contribution to the research. Other contributors should be listed as co-authors. Those who contributed to the research should be cited as “contributors.” In collaborative studies, the corresponding author must submit the manuscript to the journal with the consent of the other authors. Individuals who did not directly contribute to the research should not be listed as authors.
Originality and Accuracy: All data in the research must be accurate and original. The author must present an objective discussion regarding the significance of the study, which is based on accurate data. Deliberately providing false information is an unacceptable and unethical act.
Multiple, Unnecessary, or Simultaneous Publication: Authors must not attempt to publish the same research in multiple journals or republish a previously published article; they must adhere to the ethics of scientific research and publication. Such attempts constitute unacceptable unethical behavior.
References: All sources used in the study must be cited.
Disclosure and Conflict of Interest: All authors must clearly disclose any potential financial or other conflicts of interest that could influence the study’s results or interpretation. If financial support was received for the study, the sources must be specified.
Publication Fee: No fees are charged to authors for any research published in our journal.
Corrections to Published Works: If a significant omission or error is identified in a published work, it is the author’s responsibility to notify the editor. To address the issue, the author must collaborate with our journal’s editorial team to carry out the necessary procedures.
Article Withdrawal: An author may withdraw their manuscript under review in our journal’s publication process only during the pre-review stage. Manuscripts cannot be withdrawn during other stages of the publication process.
Originality and Plagiarism: Authors should aim to conduct and report original research. They must properly cite the works they have used. Unauthorized reproduction from other publications, including the author’s own work, constitutes a serious ethical issue and is a crime. If plagiarism is detected in manuscripts submitted to our journal, they are immediately removed from the publication process. If plagiarism is detected after publication in our journal, the necessary authorities will be informed regarding the author and the work.
Double-Blind Peer Review: Since our journal employs double-blind peer review, author information must not be included in the manuscript file.
Responsibilities of Reviewers
Contribution to editorial decisions: From the moment a reviewer is assigned via the system and accepts the assignment, they are obligated to consider the “Reviewer Evaluation Criteria” throughout the evaluation process. They assist editors in making editorial decisions and help authors improve their manuscripts through editorial communication. Any deficiencies in the manuscript—such as related articles, works, sources, citations, rules, and similar issues—must be pointed out.
Adherence to Timelines: Any reviewer who does not feel qualified to review a manuscript or who knows that the review cannot be completed on time must immediately notify the editors and decline the invitation to review, thereby ensuring that a new reviewer can be assigned.
Confidentiality: Manuscripts under review must be kept confidential until they are published.
A reviewer must not share information from a study they have been assigned to review with others before it is published.
This also applies to reviewers who decline the invitation to review. The names of reviewers are not disclosed or published.
Impartiality: Reviewers must be objective in their decision regarding the publication of the studies they review.
Comments regarding the manuscript should be made impartially, and suggestions should be provided in a manner that authors can use to improve the manuscript. Personal criticism directed at authors is inappropriate.
References: Reviewers must identify relevant published works that have not been cited by the authors. Reviewers must also notify the editor of any significant similarities between the manuscript under review and any other article (published or unpublished).
Conflicts of Interest: Conflicts of interest must be disclosed to the editor. There should be no conflict of interest between reviewers and the stakeholders of the manuscript under review. If any conflict of interest or assignment outside the reviewer’s area of expertise arises during the review process, it is recommended that the reviewer inform the Editor of the situation and, if necessary, recuse themselves from the review.
Ethics: If reviewers identify any ethical violations, plagiarism, etc., in the work at any stage of the review process, they must report this to the Editor.
Reviewers acknowledge that the works submitted for review are the authors’ intellectual property.
