A Case of Esophageal Walnut Ingestion

Abstract

This image presentation discusses the emergency case of a 32-year-old mentally retarded male patient with respiratory distress caused by the ingestion of an unidentified foreign body. Despite the parents being unaware of the ingested object, a cervical CT scan revealed a foreign body in the esophagus at the first level of the thoracic vertebra level. Esophagoscopy, using a mesh snare and tripod, proved unsuccessful in removing an entire walnut shell. The procedure was then shifted to a rigid bronchoscope, successfully extracting the esophageal foreign body without any postoperative complications. This case highlights challenges in managing esophageal foreign body aspirations, especially in non-cooperative patients.
