The Piri Reis University International Maritime Journal is committed to upholding the highest standards of publication ethics and adheres strictly to principles of ethical publishing and the prevention of malpractice. This statement has been prepared in accordance with the guidelines and recommendations of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), the Council of Science Editors (CSE).
Duties and Responsibilities of Editors
Publication Decisions
The editor of the Piri Reis University International Maritime Journal is responsible for deciding which of the submitted manuscripts will be published. The editor evaluates submissions based on their academic merit, originality, and relevance to the journal’s scope, while also considering legal requirements regarding defamation, copyright infringement, and plagiarism.
The editor may consult with reviewers and editorial board members in making publication decisions. The editor is responsible for ensuring the overall quality and integrity of the journal content and must guarantee a fair, unbiased, and timely peer-review process.
Conflicts of Interest
Unpublished materials contained in submitted manuscripts must not be used in any editor’s own research without the explicit written consent of the author(s).
Fairness and Impartiality
Manuscripts submitted to the journal are evaluated solely on their intellectual content, without any discrimination based on race, gender, sexual orientation, religious belief, ethnic origin, nationality, or political philosophy.
Confidentiality
Editors, assistant editors, and editorial staff must not disclose any information about submitted manuscripts to anyone other than the corresponding author(s), reviewers, editorial advisers, and the publisher.

Duties and Responsibilities of Reviewers
Timeliness
Any invited reviewer who feels unqualified to review the assigned manuscript or is unable to complete the review within the required timeframe should immediately notify the editor and withdraw from the review process.
Confidentiality
Manuscripts under review must be treated as confidential documents. They must not be shared or discussed with unauthorized individuals. Privileged information obtained through peer review must remain confidential and must not be used for personal advantage.
Objectivity
Reviews should be conducted objectively, with clear and well-supported arguments. Personal criticism of the author is inappropriate and must be avoided.
Acknowledgement of Sources
Reviewers should identify relevant published work that has not been cited by the authors. Any substantial similarity or overlap between the manuscript under review and other published works should be reported to the editor.
Conflicts of Interest
Reviewers should decline to evaluate manuscripts in which they have conflicts of interest arising from competitive, collaborative, or other relationships with any of the authors, institutions, or companies involved.

Duties and Responsibilities of Authors
Reporting Standards
Manuscripts submitted to the journal must be original and must not have been previously published elsewhere. Data must be presented accurately and transparently. Sufficient detail and proper referencing must be provided to ensure reproducibility. Fabrication or knowingly inaccurate statements are unacceptable.
Data Access and Retention
Authors may be requested to provide raw data during the review process and must be prepared to make such data available when required. Authors are expected to retain relevant data for a reasonable period after publication.
Originality and Plagiarism
Authors must submit entirely original work. If the work or words of others are used, proper citation must be provided. By submitting to the journal, authors confirm that their manuscript is original, ethically compliant, properly referenced, and not under consideration elsewhere.
Multiple, Redundant, or Concurrent Publication
Submitting the same or substantially similar manuscripts to more than one journal simultaneously is unethical and unacceptable.
Acknowledgement of Sources
Proper acknowledgment of all sources must always be ensured. Authors must cite publications that have influenced the nature of the reported work.
Authorship
Authorship should be limited to individuals who have made significant contributions to the conception, design, execution, or interpretation of the study. All significant contributors should be listed as co-authors. Individuals who contributed in other ways should be acknowledged appropriately.
The corresponding author is responsible for ensuring that all co-authors approve the final manuscript and agree to its submission.
Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest
All authors must disclose any financial or other conflicts of interest that may influence the results or interpretation of their manuscript.
Fundamental Errors in Published Works
If an author discovers a significant error or inaccuracy in their published work, they must promptly notify the editor and cooperate in correcting or retracting the article.
Each manuscript must include:

- Funding and Acknowledgement Statement (if applicable)
- Conflict of Interest Declaration
Publication Principles
- Manuscripts must be written in English.
- Submitted manuscripts must not have been previously published or under consideration elsewhere. Papers derived from conference or symposium presentations may be considered if clearly indicated on the title page.
- Opinions expressed in published articles are solely those of the authors.
- Manuscripts must comply with language and formatting standards. The editorial board reserves the right to request revisions in form and content.
- The journal is published biannually (June and December); however, publication schedules may vary depending on editorial workflow. The journal assumes no liability for such changes.
- Authors must comply with the journal’s submission guidelines.
- The journal does not charge any submission, processing, or publication fees at any stage.
