Comparison of The Effect of Static and Dynamic Core Exercises on Physical Performance Parameters in Young Boxers

Abstract

The purpose of the study was to investigate the effects of 6 weeks of static and dynamic core exercises on physical performance parameters in young boxers. Twenty well-trained young male boxers aged 14-18 years old were voluntarily involved in the study. All participants were grouped randomly into dynamic and static core exercise groups. A six-week core exercise training program was performed on static and dynamic core exercise groups. Anthropometric measurements and physical performance tests; Yo-yo intermittent recovery test level 1, 30m speed test, hexagon agility test, standing long jump, maximum push-up, 30s sit-ups, flamingo balance and sit and reach flexibility tests were performed repeated 2 times before and after 6 weeks of training. Data were collected before and after six weeks of core exercise training and were analyzed using Paired t-test and ANCOVA test procedures. The results indicated that the core exercise training program significantly improved both groups' speed, agility, long jump, muscular endurance and 30m sprint performance. (p<0.05). A significant difference was found between the pre-test and between the post-test mean value of the static core exercise group in the maximum push-up test scores (p <0.05). The dynamic core exercise group’s aerobic capacity and flexibility tests showed a statistically significant increase (p<0.05). The result of this study, it was revealed that the static and dynamic core exercises that young boxers perform during each period of the season contributed positively to the physical performance parameters. However, it was revealed that 6-week static core training was effective on push-ups, speed, agility, standing long jump, sit-ups and balance while dynamic core training was effective on VO2max, flexibility, sit-ups, balance, standing long jump, agility and speed.
