A Cost Minimization Framework for Purchasing Logistics Services: An Application on Transport Services from the Shipper Perspective

Abstract

The study aims to identify the logistics activities with high costs for the shippers purchasing logistics services and to provide a scientific framework to manage the logistics costs. Shippers face different costs during transportation and differ in costs when the mode of transportation and supplier change. Therefore, it is important to determine which cost is the priority for transportation for shippers. Moment Integrated Solution (THEMIS) method was applied in the study for cost prioritization. The sampling method is a simple random sampling method and the sampling has a total of 5 employees. The methodology used for the logistics cost elements was developed in prior studies. The study shows that the distribution criterion is most important for the shippers. The study will provide a great horizon for further research.
