Examining the Required Qualifications of Civil Aviation and Cabin Services Students through AHP and TOPSIS Methods

Abstract

The aim of this study is to rank 45 students studying in the Civil Aviation and Cabin Services program, which serves to meet the need for cabin attendants, in terms of meeting the qualifications of being a cabin attendant. AHP and TOPSIS, which are multi-criteria decision-making methods, were used to make comparisons according to the qualifications of the students. In the study, a questionnaire study was applied to the expert team consisting of 3 academicians in order to determine whether the students of the Civil Aviation and Cabin Services program had the qualifications included in the analysis, and the geometric average of the results obtained was taken. In order to determine the weights of the evaluation criteria used in the study, the AHP method was applied, and the criteria weights were determined by taking the opinions of the expert team consisting of 3 academicians and a cabin supervisor. The evaluation criteria that must be met to become a cabin attendant included in the analysis, external appearance, self-confidence competence, sense of responsibility, human relations and empathy, diction, teamwork. As a result of the AHP method, the criterion with the highest degree of importance was determined as diction. As a result of the evaluation made by the TOPSIS method based on the importance levels of these criteria, it was concluded that the 35th student was in the first place and the 25th student was in the last place. The results obtained are important in terms of providing the educational support that students need to be successful in their professions.
