Evaluation of Airlines' Costs and Revenues in The Context of The Effects of Covid-19: An Application on Major Airlines

Abstract

This study analysed the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic on 58 airline companies' costs and revenues between 2017 and 2021. The trend analysis method was used to examine the change in revenues and expenses, with 2017 as the base year. The analysis revealed that airline company revenues were stable until March 2020, and efforts were made to maintain a balance between income and expenses. Out of the 58 airlines analysed, Lion Tra experienced the most significant decrease in revenue ratio, followed by Norwegian Air and Thai Airways. The Covid-19 outbreak had a significant impact on airline operator expenses. Among the airlines, Spicejet had the highest proportional increase in expenses, followed by Wizz Air and Air Asia
