ACTIVITIES IN MARAŞ AND ITS SURROUNDINGS OF ORGANIZATIONS AND COMMITTEES ESTABLISHED BY ARMENIANS

Abstract

In the 19thcentury, the Ottoman Empire enacted severalchanges in its legal and political system due to its desire to overcome itsinternal problems and due to the expansion of its relations with the West.The first change was the declaration of the “Edict of Reorganization”(“Tanzimat Fermanı”). Following this edict, which regulated therelationship between the state and the public, the “Edict of Reform”(“Islahat Fermanı”) and the “Constitutional Era” (“Meşrutiyet”) wereproclaimed. Armenians, who lived under the Ottoman Empire in Anatolia,took the case of the Balkan peoples as an example to be emulated, whomhad gained their independence by revolting against the empire. Under theeffect of this example, Armenians tried to get support from the foreignstates in order to first gain autonomy, and then to establish an independentArmenian state. In the meantime, they organized several internalinsurrections. For these insurrections to work, Armenians needed to makepsychological and organizational preparation and acquire weapons. Inthis study, the way in which Armenians organized themselves forindependence and the activities of the organizations they founded will beinvestigated. This study also aims to reveal the activities that Armenianshad engaged in Maraş and its surroundings during and after the WorldWar I. In this study, the documents of the Ottoman archives will be usedas the main sources

(ERMENİLERİN KURDUKLARI CEMİYETLER VE KOMİTELERİN MARAŞ VE ÇEVRESİNDEKİ FAALİYETLERİ)

Abstract

Osmanlı Devleti, XIX. yüzyılda kendi iç problemlerini çözmek istemesi veBatı ile ilişkilerinin artması sonucunda bazı düzenlemeler yaptı. Budüzenlemelerden ilki “Tanzimat Fermanı”nın ilan edilmesiydi. Devletin halklailişkilerini düzenleyen bu fermanın ardından Islahat Fermanı ve Meşrutiyet’inilan edilmesi geldi. Osmanlı Devleti’nin Anadolu’daki unsurlarından biri olanErmeniler, Balkanlarda yaşayan halkların çeşitli isyanlar çıkararakbağımsızlıklarını elde etmelerini örnek aldılar. Bunun da etkisiyle önce özerk,sonra da bağımsız bir Ermeni devleti kurma amacıyla çalışmalar yaparakyabancı devletlerden destek almaya çalıştılar. Bir taraftan da içeride isyanlarorganize ettiler. İsyanların çıkarılması için psikolojik hazırlık, örgütlenme vesilahlanma gerekiyordu. Bu çalışmada, Ermenilerin bağımsızlık için çeşitlişekillerde örgütlenmeleri ve bu örgütlerin faaliyetleri ele alınacaktır.Çalışmada ayrıca Ermenilerin Birinci Dünya Savaşı sırasında ve sonrasındaMaraş ve çevresinde yaptıkları faaliyetlerin ortaya çıkarılmasıamaçlanmaktadır. Çalışmada Osmanlı arşiv belgeleri ana kaynak olarakkullanılacaktır
