A DIFFERENT DIMENSION OF TURCOPHOBIA: “ARMENIAN GENOCIDE” MEMORIALS IN THE WORLD
Abstract
This article suggests that cultural assets in the form ofmonuments and inscriptions keep alive historical memory. These assetsand the places where they are situated take an important place in thememories and agendas of people and nations due to the fact that theyaddress the crowd psychology. Thus we argue that one of the neglectedaspects of Turkish-Armenian relations up to the present is the questionof monuments and inscriptions. Those kinds of objects played animportant role in the formation of some images such as “Cruel Turk”and “Oppressed Armenian”. In this article we’ll try to show the fact thatincreasing number of monuments commemorating an “ArmenianGenocide” enhances a negative perception towards Turkey and theTurkish people by increasing hostilities
