CONSERVATION OF OIL PAINTINGS: AN OVERVIEW

Abstract

In this study, the conservation steps of canvas oil paintings are explained. These steps are documentation, diagnosis, consolidation, surface cleaning, filling and maintenance interventions. While the documentation and diagnosis are as shortly mentioned, the conservation and restoration interventions as chemical consolidation, surface cleaning, resupporting, filling retouching and varnishing are also mentioned. For the maintenance, exhibition and storage conditions of the canvas oil paintings are also proposed
