Abstract

Lasers have by now found important and various applications in the preservation and restoration of artworks, as their use offers a number of distinct advantages over conventional methods. One of the most important aspects of the application of lasers in conservation lies in analysis. However, because of the particular emphasis on laser ablation, we focus here exclusively on the use of lasers for the cleaning of works of art, especially stone
