During the restoration work conducted in Izmir Ataturk House Museum by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Izmir Directorate of Surveying and Monuments, protection and repair work was carried out for the four ceramic fire places of the museum from November 16, 2001 to February 17, 2002.During the years of 2001-2003, when I was, on behalf of Ataturk University Faculty of Fine Arts and in accordance with the Article 35 of YOK Council of Higher Education assigned to perform my study of proficiency in art in Dokuz Eylul University, Institute of Fine Arts; I, together with students, accomplished protection and repair work for the fireplaces in Ataturk Museum on behalf of the same department.Izmir Ataturk Museum, which is estimated to be built between1875-1890, has four ceramic fireplaces, each with a boiler. “Imported majolica ceramics” of the 19th century were used on these fireplaces, metal parts of which were made of pig iron constructed with casting technique. This study reports the protection and repair methods applied in connection with the specified reasons of decay on the fireplaces
