This study aims to analyze the newly formed government in Iraq. After nearly six months of political negotiations since the incumbent Adil Abdulmehdi’s resignation and two failed attempts, Mustafa al-Kadhimi as prime minister was able to form a government in Iraq on May 6, 2020. Al Kadhimi, who has been serving as an Intelligence Director since 2016, is considered as pragmatic and having good relations with main political actors in Iraq. The appointment of alKadhimi as the new prime minister has brought positive atmosphere to the Iraqi political spectrum. However, the new government faces daunting challenges: i keeping political processes and government institutions alive ii addressing the repercussions of Covid-19 pandemic, iii dealing with the global oil price crush and iv establishing balance between Tehran and Washington
