Abstract

Traditional and complementary medicine practices are among the commonly used practices to relieve complaints during pregnancy. The prevalence of pregnant women applying to traditional and complementary practices varies between 1-87%. Some important associations do not recommend the use of herbal products during pregnancy because of the potential for teratogenic effects. The most preferred methods for nausea and vomiting during pregnancy are acupuncture, ginger, and hypnosis. Ayurvedic medicine for sleep problems, chamomile tea, lavender oil, music therapy, and relaxation exercises, and aromatherapy are the most preferred ones for the treatment of low back, back, and pelvic pain. In the literature, there are studies that reveal the effects of traditional complementary medicine practices by midwives in eliminating the discomforts experienced during pregnancy. Increasing the awareness of midwives on traditional and complementary medicine practices and their consultancy role in this regard is very important. In this context, this review has been prepared to determine the traditional and complementary medicine practices and the roles of midwifery in pregnancy.
