There is a paradigm shift in sport sciences. Social
life which includes sport is changing, our perceptions
and interests are changing. Our ontological,
epistemological assumptions and therefore our methodological
assumptions are changing. Therefore, in
Turkey and in the world, the number of qualitative
studies has been increased in recent years. However,
we cannot see the similar increase in the quality and
richness of the qualitative studies. Because young
sport scientists who are learning and practicing qualitative
research have a fuzzy instruction (Koca ve
Hünük, 2016). One of the reasons for this is that they
cannot position the learning resources of qualitative
research into their research contexts. In this article, I
aimed to position qualitative research into sport and
sport sciences. I tried to discuss the fundamental features
of qualitative research, paradigm, research
designs, data collection techniques, data analysis,
and credibility strategies within the context of sport
sciences. I hope that I will provide a route map to the
sport scientists who would like to conduct a qualitative
study.
