Academic Studies on Gaza: Bibliometric Analysis and Literature Review

Abstract

Although the conflict between Israel and Palestine did not begin on October 7, 2023, it can be said that a serious war and genocide have been taking place in Gaza since that date. Various reactions and statements have emerged in the global public sphere regarding the conflicts in the Palestinian territories. Numerous events and studies have been conducted on the subject across various platforms. Alongside various platforms related to Gaza, the direction and conclusions of academic studies are also important. In this context, the study was conducted to determine the direction of academic studies related to Gaza after October 7, 2023. To this end, the word “Gaza” was searched in studies included in the WoS index within the relevant time frame. The data obtained were examined using bibliometric analysis and literature review methods. According to the results of the bibliometric analysis conducted, it was observed that the vast majority of the studies were published in journals indexed in the Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI), that a large proportion of the researchers publishing on the subject were US academics, and that the number of publications increased over the years. When the studies were examined according to their research areas, it was determined that they were conducted in the field of “General Internal Medicine” and were related to Sustainable Development Goal (SDGs) “03 Good Health and Well-being.” A literature review was conducted on the extent and manner in which the articles published during the period under review addressed the economic situation in Gaza. According to the literature review, while studies related to the field of economics are relatively insufficient, recent studies have been found to follow current issues and developments.

Gazze Üzerine Akademik Çalışmalar: Bibliyometrik Analiz ve Literatür Değerlendirmesi

Abstract

İsrail ve Filistin arasındaki çatışma 7 Ekim2023 tarihinde başlamamış olmakla birlikte bu tarih itibariyle Gazze’de ciddi bir savaş ve soykırım yaşandığı söylenebilir. Filistin bölgesinde yaşanan çatışmalara karşı dünya kamuoyunda çeşitli yönde tepkiler ve söylemler gelişmiştir. Çeşitli platformlarda konuya ilişkin birçok etkinlik ve çalışmalar yapılmıştır. Gazze ile ilgili çeşitli platformların yanında akademik çalışmaların yönelimi ve çıkarımları da önemlidir. Bu bağlamda çalışma, 7 Ekim 2023 tarihinden sonra yaşananların akademi dünyasında Gazze ile ilgili yapılmış çalışmaların yönünü tespit etmek amacıyla yapılmıştır. Bu amaç doğrultusunda çalışmada, WoS indeksinde yer alan araştırmalarda “Gazze” kelimesi ilgili tarih kapsamında taranmıştır. Elde edilen veriler bibliyometrik analiz ve literatür değerlendirme yöntemi ile incelenmiştir. Yapılan bibliyometrik analiz sonuçlarına göre; yapılan çalışmaların büyük çoğunluğunun Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI) indeksli dergilerde yayınlandığı, konuya ilişkin yayın yapan araştırmacıların büyük bir kısmını ABD’li akademisyenler olduğu ve bu yayınların yıllar itibariyle artış gösterdiği görülmüştür. Yapılan çalışmalar araştırma alanlarına göre incelendiğinde ise “Genel İç Hastalıkları” alanında yapıldığı ve Sürdürülebilir Kalkınma Hedefleri’nden (SKH) “03 Sağlıklı Bireyler” ile ilişkili oldukları tespit edilmiştir. İncelenen dönemde yayınlanan makalelerin Gazze’de yaşanan ekonomik durumu ne ölçüde ve ne şekilde ele aldığına yönelik olarak literatür değerlendirmesi yapılmıştır. Yapılan literatür değerlendirmesine göre, ekonomi alanına ilişkin çalışmalar nispeten yetersiz olmakla birlikte son zamanlarda yapılan çalışmaların güncel sorunları ve gelişmeleri takip ettiği görülmüştür.
