Fatsa Cıngırt Kayası’ndan Ele Geçen 10 Sikke Üzerine Gözlemler

Year 2013, Issue: 3, 151 - 181, 01.01.2013

Abstract

This article presents ten coin items that were stamped in the cities of Dia, Amisos, Sinope, Amastris during the period of Mithradates VI, the King of Pontos. The coins are selected among many other that were acquired in a survey conducted in Cıngırt Kayası in the boundary of Yapraklı Village of Fatsa, Ordu, in 2011 and in an excavation in the same area in the season of 2012. The coins, which will be presented by catalog information, are similar, in terms of iconography and denomination, to those which were issued in cities allowed by Mithradates VI to issue coins in his area of dominance. The coins will be evaluated along with the political developments of the period and their reflection in the policy of coin stamping. The article also analyzes the politics of Mithradates VI, which are anti-Roman and pro-Hellenistic Kingdom in nature, and their reflection to the coin iconography.

Fatsa Cıngırt Kayası’ndan Ele Geçen 10 Sikke Üzerine Gözlemler

Year 2013, Issue: 3, 151 - 181, 01.01.2013

Abstract

Bu çalışmada Ordu İli Fatsa İlçesi Yapraklı Köyü sınırları içinde yer alan Cıngırt Kayası’nda 2011 sezonunda gerçekleştirilen yüzey araştırması ve 2012 sezonunda yürütülen kazı çalışmalarından elde edilen sikkeler arasından seçilen Pontus Kralı VI. Mithradates Dönemi’ne tarihlenen Amisos, Sinope, Amastris, Dia darplı on adet sikkenin tanıtımı yapılmaktadır. Katalog kapsamına alınan sikkeler, VI. Mithradates’in egemen olduğu coğrafyada darp izni verilen kentlere ait bronz sikkelerle birim değeri ve ikonografik açıdan benzerlik göstermektedir. Söz konusu sikkeler, dönemin siyasal gelişmeleri ve bunun sikke basım politikasına olan yansımaları kapsamında yapılan değerlendirmelerle birlikte sunulmaktadır. VI. Mithradates’in Roma karşıtı, Hellenistik krallık anlayışı doğrultusunda izlediği politika ve bunun sikke ikonografisine yansıması söz konusu çalışmada irdelenmektedir.
