Year 2024, Volume: 2 Issue: 1, 27 - 44, 30.04.2024

Abstract

The aim of this study was to evaluate the preferences of elderly people for primary health care services and their reasons for preferring emergency services. In this context, the study evaluated issues such as trust in family health centers, service quality, counseling services, sense of familiarity, and ease of access. A purposive sample of individuals aged ≥65 years living in Kırklareli and registered at family health centers in different neighborhoods was enrolled. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews. The results showed that older people trust family health centers, are satisfied with health services, benefit from counseling services, and feel familiar with health personnel. In addition, socioeconomic status, severity of health problems, ease of access to health services, and health insurance coverage were identified as key determinants of the health service preferences of the elderly. These factors should be taken into consideration to understand their health care preferences and to provide services that meet their needs.
