CORRELATION BETWEEN FOREIGN DIRECT INVESTMENT AND GLOBAL COMPETİTİVENESS: A CAUSALITY ANALYSIS FOR TURKEY

Abstract

With globalisation process, countries have gone into competition in production, capital movements and foreign trade. As every country has not the same capacity in terms of technology and production capacity or skill, through foreign direct investment, countries turn towards other country markets, thus creating advantages concerning internal and foreign competition. The aim of the present work is to test whether causality between foreign direct investments in Turkey and global competitiveness or not. Johansen Cointegration test is utilized in the present work. Causality between foreign direct investment and global competitiveness in the short run is conducted by using granger causality test. For the long run, causality vector fault correcting model coefficients have been interpreted. The result of the present work is twofold: On the one hand, in the short period, global competitiveness itself has led to foreign direct investment and, on the other hand, a reciprocal causality between foreign direct investment and foreign competition capacity has come out in the long run, in Turkey

DOĞRUDAN YABANCI SERMAYE YATIRIMI VE DIŞ REKABET GÜCÜ İLİŞKİSİ: TÜRKİYE İÇİN NEDENSELLİK ANALİZİ

Abstract

Küreselleşme süreci ile ülkeler üretimde, sermaye hareketlerinde ve dış ticarette rekabet yarışı içine girmişlerdir. Her ülkenin teknoloji ve üretim becerilerinin aynı seviyede olmaması, doğrudan yabancı sermaye yatırımları yoluyla ülkeleri diğer ülke pazarlarına yönelterek, iç ve dış rekabet açısından avantaj sağlamalarına neden olmaktadır. Bu çalışma ile amaç, Türkiye’de doğrudan yabancı sermaye yatırımları ile dış rekabet gücü arasında ilişki olup olmadığının sınanmasıdır. Çalışmada Johansen Eşbütünleşme Testi uygulanmıştır. Doğrudan yabancı sermaye yatırımları ile dış rekabet gücü arasında nedenselliğin yönü ise kısa dönemde Granger Nedensellik Testi ile belirlenmiştir. Uzun dönem nedensellik için ise Vektör Hata Düzeltme Modeli katsayıları yorumlanmıştır. Sonuç olarak kısa dönemde Türkiye’de dış rekabet gücünün doğrudan yabancı sermaye yatırımlarına neden olduğu, uzun dönemde ise doğrudan yabancı yatırımlar ile dış rekabet gücü arasında karşılıklı nedensellik ilişkisi olduğu ortaya çıkmaktadır
