In this study, potential contribution of the marine aerosols on the atmospheric aerosol composition at the coastal region of Marmara Sea was investigated. For this purpose, aerosol samplings were carriedout in Silivri, Avcılar, Bakırköy, Yenikapı, Maltepe and Bostancı stations in Istanbul during April to October of 2011. Samplings were carried out in accordance with the wet candle method of ASTM-G140 standard. Trace elements and ions analyses of the collected aerosols were done via Inductively Coupled Plasma (IPC) and Ion Chromatography methods. Mass fluxes of Na+ and Cl- ions were examined in order to determine the effect of marine aerosols, and element analyses together with HYSPLIT (Hybrid Single Particle Lagrangian Integrated Trajectory) model outputs were used for the assessment of the sources and effects of antropogenic emissions on the aerosol compositions. A long-range transport of industrial contribution to the aerosol compositions could be considered if the origins of 24-hr air parcels of HYSPLIT models were examined. According to model outputs, while locally source contibutions were found to be particularly including sea, crustal, traffic and regional industries which are transported from east and northeast air parcels over the İstanbul in September-2011, especially Zn and B may transported from partly South-southwest directions by means that Sharan dust in april-2011.
