ORGANOBORON COMPOUNDS AND THEIR USES IN ORGANIC SYNTHESIS

Year 2013, Volume: 31 Issue: 4, 477 - 494, 01.12.2013

Abstract

Inorganic and organometallic boron compounds are being extremely used in organic synthesis Sodium perborate NaBO3, is a cheap and commonly used oxidation reagent; sodium borohydride, NaBH4 and diborane, B2H6 are reduction reagents used for hydride transfer. Organoboranes, R3B which are easily prepared by addition of B2H6, to alkenes and alkynes (hydroboration) are an important class of organoboron compounds and Prof. H. Brown has received 1979 Nobel laurate due to his research on this subject. Organoboron compounds and especially organoboranes have importance and a wide range of application in organic synthesis and especially in synthesis of pharmaceuticals and due to their easy preparation, stability in water and air, toleration toward functional reagents, high stereoselectivity of their reactions and nontoxic boric acid as a side product. Pd catalyzed C-C coupling, which is one of the most important reactions of organoboron compunds, is known as Suzuki-Miyaura reaction and Prof. A.Suzuki has received 2010 Nobel laurate due to his research in this subject. In last ten years, there has been a great increase in the reseach on the reactions of organoboron compounds and their industrial applications. In this account, preparation methods and use of organaboron compounds in organic synthesis have been summarized and the importance and applicability of Suzuki-Miyaura Reaction has been reviewed .
