A Brief Evaluation of the Studies in the Field of Sociology of Ageing in Turkey

Abstract

This paper, which includes a brief evaluation about the studies in the field of sociology of ageing in Turkey, is formed by an argument about the necessities of developing a sociological perspective upon ageing and doing sociology about this subject matter. While doing this, it is particularly our aim to consider the situation of sociology of ageing within the sociological literature. The method of the study is based upon a thematic bibliographical analysis; in this context the data was drawn from National Union Catalogue, Council of Higher Education Thesis Center and National Library of Turkey Bibliography of Articles. By drawing upon the data obtained, the development of literature in time is scrutinized both quantitatively and thematically. The findings point out that sociology of ageing in Turkey is increasingly becoming important; nonetheless it is still necessary to conduct more theoretical and applied research in the area

TURKIYE'DE YASLANMA SOSYOLOJISI ALANINDA YAPILAN CALISMALARA DAIR KISA BIR DEĞERLENDIRME

Abstract

Türkiye’de yaşlanma sosyolojisi alanında yapılmış çalışmalara ilişkin kısa bir değerlendirmeyi içeren bu makale, yaşlanma konusuna ilişkin sosyolojik bir perspektif geliştirme ve böylece yaşlanmanın sosyolojisinin yapılması gerekliliği iddiasıyla biçimlenmiştir. Bunu ortaya koyarken özellikle Türkiye’deki sosyoloji literatürü içerisindeki yaşlanma sosyolojinin yeri irdelenmeye çalışılmaktadır. Çalışmanın yöntemini, tematik bibliyografya taraması oluşturmaktadır; bu bağlamda Ulusal Toplu Katalog, Yüksek Öğretim Kurumu Ulusal Tez Merkezi ve Milli Kütüphane Türkiye Makaleler Bibliyografyası temel alınmıştır. Elde edilen veriler doğrultusunda literatürün zaman içerisinde gösterdiği değişim hem niceliksel artış hem de tematik olarak irdelenmeye çalışılmıştır. Bu bağlamda elde edilen bulgular Türkiye’deki yaşlanma sosyolojisi alanının giderek önem kazanmakta olduğunu ancak bununla birlikte alana ilişkin daha fazla sayıda kuramsal ve uygulamalı çalışma yapılması gerektiğine işaret etmektedir
