Studentification of Anatolian Cities: A Different Urbanization Exprience

Abstract

The universities that have been established since 1992 in Anatolian cities are regarded as the keys for urban development and social change and each city in Turkey hosts a university in Turkey as for the year 2010. In this respect, universities have generally been regarded as development agents and valued for their contribution to the economy of the city. On the other hand, universities in anatolian cities have created a vast mobility, stimulated dynamics of social change and pave the way for studentification of those cities. In this article social transformations that universities created in Anatolian cities have been examined on the basis of the term “studentification of cities”. The sample of the study is composed of 486 university students studying at Süleyman Demirel University and 462 inhabitants of Isparta city. A part of data is collected through a Likert type perception/evaluation scale and an interview form has been utilized for collecting other data
